The Bolingbrook Jubilee, the village's big summer festival, is just around the corner.
This year's fest will run from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 14, 6 to 11 p.m. Aug. 15, noon to 11 p.m. Aug. 16 and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 17 on the grounds behind Town Center, 375 W. Briarcliff Road.
The Bolingbrook Jaycees will sponsor the traditional carnival at the event, as well as a bingo tent. Wristbands for carnival rides will cost $18, with unlimited rides between 6 and 10 p.m. Aug. 14 and noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 16 and 17. The wristbands will be good on the day of purchase only.
There will be plenty of food booths and a beer tent as well.
In addition, the festival will feature a craft show from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 16 and 17. There will also be a classic car show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 17. Early registration is not required. There will be an entry fee of $10 per vehicle on the day of the show. Trophies will be awarded in numerous categories and all entrants will be eligible for door prizes.
From noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 16, special activities for children will be in the spotlight.
Of course, the Jubilee also means music. Each day of the festival this year has a musical theme. Aug. 14 will have a country music theme, with Dana Cooper performing at 6:30 p.m. and Strait Southern playing at 8:30 p.m. on the Performing Arts Stage.
Aug. 15 is rock night, with Dot Dot Dot at 6 p.m. and Think Floyd USA at 8 p.m.
Aug. 16 will feature "old time rock 'n' roll." Blue Sunday will play at 1 p.m., Rayburn at 3 p.m., Rock of Ages at 5:30 p.m., Bob West at 7:30 p.m. and New Colony Six at 9:30 p.m.
The final day of the festival will have a 1980s musical theme. Plan 9 will perform at 1 p.m., Scramble at 3:30 p.m., Slippery When Wet at 5:30 p.m. and Infinity at 7:30 p.m.
Several streets surrounding Town Center will have parking restrictions in place during the fest. Free parking will be available at Brooks Middle School, 350 Blair Lane. A free shuttle bus will run patrons to and from the festival from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Aug. 14, 6 to 11:30 p.m. Aug. 15, 3 to 11:30 p.m. Aug. 16 and 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 17.
Bolingbrook Woman Hit By Train
CLARENDON HILLS -- A Bolingbrook woman was killed Friday morning when she was struck by a Metra train in at a west suburban station. The incident involving an eastbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train occurred about 11:20 a.m. at the Clarendon Hills station at 1 S. Prospect Ave.
Clarendon Hills police Chief Pat Anderson said the 43-year-old Bolingbrook woman was standing 100 yards west of the station when she was hit by the train. The train was delayed for just over an hour. Police from Clarendon Hills and the BNSF Railroad are investigating.
A source said the incident appears to be a suicide.
